First Week Back in Seattle: A Food Diary
The Dolar Shop 🍲 We celebrated my friend’s birthday at the super popular Dolar Shop in Bellevue 🎂. Four of us ordered four different hot pot sets so we could share all kinds of meat 🥩. The portions were generous—each set came with a platter of tofu skin rolls, shrimp paste, luncheon meat, crab sticks, quail eggs, enoki mushrooms, and veggies 🥬. We also added crispy fried pork strips and a tripe/duck blood combo platter. But honestly, the much-hyped silver soup and mushroom broth didn’t impress me 😕—they lacked depth. Even my spicy broth-loving friend said it wasn’t really spicy 🌶️. After a while, the server refilled the broth, and it just got even blander… 💰 Average cost: $58 per person—kinda underwhelming. LeTao 🍰 I used to be obsessed with their cheese biscuits—my dad would bring them back from Japan every time ✈️. Didn’t expect to find one right across from Dolar Shop in Bellevue! 🌰 Mont Blanc Soft Serve A seasonal special 🍂. Their signature soft serve topped with chestnut paste was delightful. I swapped the original milk flavor for cheese—amazing at first, but a bit rich after a while 🍨. Next time I’ll try the milk-cheese swirl! Unlike typical American ice cream, it was lightly sweet with a natural milky aroma blended with chestnut goodness. Definitely coming back! 💰 Price: $14 🍑 Pêche Blanche Earl Grey Cake My friend’s birthday cake was another seasonal pick 🎂. Layers of Earl Grey mousse, white peach mousse, mascarpone cheese, topped with peach slices and jelly—light and not too sweet. But it’s pretty small for the price (around $50 if I recall 😅). We might’ve thawed it too long—it didn’t need that much time. Still, I’d pick Lady M over this. Happy Noodle & Boiling Seafood House 🦐 🌊 Seafood Combo Clams, green & black mussels, corn, potatoes—cooked in the owner’s recommended signature sauce 🧑🍳. Savory, umami, and not heavy at all! The seafood was fresh and clean-tasting 👌. 🍜 Wan Zha Noodles The owner makes the preserved veggies themselves—one bite took me straight back to Chongqing! 🇨🇳❤️ Basil Viet Kitchen 🍚 This was just okay for me, but it’s super close to UW West Campus dorms—right near District Market 🏫. A lifesaver for lazy days when you don’t want DM or Local Point. 🍜 Pho with Assorted Beef Cuts Lots of different meats, but they weren’t as tender or flavorful as I hoped 😔. The broth also tasted pretty basic. I’d rather go to “Niu Yi Zui” for pho. 🍚 Chicken & Shrimp Rice Bowl The chicken was bland and dry, but the fried shrimp was alright 🍤. #SeattleEats #SeattleFoodie #BackInSeattle #UWLife #FoodDiary
