Free Museums in DTLA 🏤 El Pueblo Historical District
I recently discovered that there’s the Chinese American Museum in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, right across from Union Station. I excitedly headed over and found out it’s free to enter, and it’s located in the historic El Pueblo district, where there are several small free museums. 😉 ✨ Chinese American Museum These museums focus on the history of different ethnic groups in LA. A significant portion of the exhibits addresses immigration issues and the fight for ethnic rights, as well as the living conditions of people from different eras. The Chinese American Museum’s use of rice to display population growth really struck a chord with me. ❤️ The special exhibition for the past six months has been about the first Chinese American Hollywood star ⭐ Anna May Wong, including a thick booklet of her detailed documents and questionnaires each time she entered the United States. The exhibition also explores her identity and her efforts to represent Chinese Americans in the film industry. ✨ Plaza Firehouse The guy here was super enthusiastic, eagerly explaining the history of the LA fire station to me. 👷🏻♀️ He also told me about the different equipment used over the years, and thanks to him, I found out about all these museums in the area. ✨ La Plaza de Cultura y Artes A museum dedicated to Mexican and Latin American culture, covering border issues, colonialism, art, and culture. I was delighted by the small space on the second floor 🤩 that replicates the streets and shops of the past. ✨ Italian American Museum of LA A small museum dedicated to Italian culture, just one floor with a limited number of exhibits. The current special exhibition focuses on the life of Italian American musician Louis Prima 🎶. I was surprised to learn that many familiar melodies were actually his work. 🚗 Parking I found a parking lot on the southeast side of the district, $10 for the day. Parking in DTLA is pretty tight; there should be street parking available as well, but you’ll need to be patient to find it. #RecordingLife #LifeSnippets #WhereToGoOnWeekends #LosAngelesMuseums #FreeMuseumsInLA #ChineseAmericanMuseum #LosAngelesHiddenGems #LosAngelesHiddenMuseums
