Geneva | Did the Smurfs Build This Neighborhood?
There's an apartment building in Geneva that doesn't quite feel like typical Geneva. It looks like something out of the Smurfs' village—cute and vibrantly colored, with sculpted balconies, wrought-iron railings, and a whimsical, curvilinear architectural style. Anyone familiar with the work of the famous Spanish artist Antoni Gaudí i Cornet can immediately see the connection. 🧙♂️ Indeed, this lively and playful architectural complex was built in the early 1980s by three Swiss architects inspired by Gaudí. The neighborhood is called "The Smurfs Buildings" (or "Schtroumpfs"), named after the well-known "Smurf Village." 🏠 Though not officially a tourist attraction, "The Smurfs Village" is a popular spot for photos and visits. It's conveniently located just one block from Geneva's Cornavin train station, in the Les Grottes district. This area has a bohemian vibe and is becoming increasingly popular. 🌿 Does anyone in the comments live in this neighborhood?
