Get to know the true story of what was once the world's most dangerous
Many travelers visiting Medellín, Colombia, opt for solo exploration or city walks based on online guides. However, after wandering the downtown area ourselves and joining two guided tours, we strongly recommend taking a tour instead! Here’s why👇 Safety: Around Botero Plaza in the city center, some streets are filled with homeless people and drug addicts, creating a zombie-apocalypse vibe. Thankfully, we passed by in a taxi, and the driver specifically warned us not to walk in that direction. Medellín was once the world’s most dangerous city. Can you believe all this happened just a decade ago? Do you know why? 🧐 There are so many stories behind it. The city tour will give you a clear understanding of how the city formed, why it became the world’s most dangerous, and how it managed to break free from that dark era. Graffiti murals are everywhere in Medellín, especially in the hillside slums. These artworks carry deep meanings—they’re not just random graffiti. Joining a tour helps you uncover their significance. Top 2 recommended tours👇 🌟 Free City Walk Tour: Though completely free, everyone tipped at the end—around 20-30 pesos per person is fair. The tour lasts about 3 hours and gives you a thorough understanding of the city’s past. Super interesting! 🌟 Comuna 13 Tour: This tour is a must because Comuna 13 is the most famous slum, once a drug hub and now district. The tour costs 100 pesos per person and also runs for 3 hours. Our guide grew up in Comuna 13 and witnessed the tail end of its violent era. The most fascinating part isn’t just learning the history but also understanding the deeper meanings behind the iconic murals. Due to time constraints, we didn’t join other tours, but we’ve heard other slum tours are also very unique. If you have time, give them a try! Finally, both tours can be found on a certain map app. If you can’t locate them, feel free to leave a comment and ask me. #DigitalNomad #TravelLife #LatinAmerica #Colombia #Medellín #TravelGuide #GuidedTour #Comuna13 #CityWalk
