Gio-ji Temple in Kyoto ๐บ
Admission: 300 yen for adults ๐๐ข Duration: About 20-35 minutes to visit ๐This temple holds a "tragic and cruel love story," but it's not just about love. According to the "Tale of the Heike," a dancer named Gio was once favored by the noble Taira no Kiyomori. ๐๐ข He even promised to build an irrigation system for her hometown. ๐However, as time passed, Kiyomori shifted his favor to another dancer named Buddha-mae and stopped calling for Gio. Eventually, he drove her away. Before becoming a nun, Gio wrote a poem expressing her feelings. ๐ ๐๐ข When Buddha-mae read Gio's poem, she realized that such favor was fleeting. She, too, decided to become a nun. Originally, Gio harbored resentment towards Buddha-mae, but seeing her take the same path, all past entanglements vanished like smoke. ๐ ๐ #KyotoTravel #GiojiTemple ๐ฟ
