Gorkha, a City Often Overlooked in Nepal

πŸŒ‡ Gorkha, once a tribe located in central Nepal, is the cradle of the Gorkha dynasty. It served as the capital of the Nepalese kingdom in the 18th century, and in 1768, Gorkha unified Nepal, establishing the Shah dynasty. Gorkha also holds the distinction of being the last tributary state of China. 🚌 Regarding transportation to Gorkha, you can purchase a ticket at the Gongabu Bus Park in Kathmandu to reach the city of Gorkha. For more details, you can refer to my previous notes. ⛰️ The main attractions in Gorkha include: 1⃣ Gorkha Museum 2⃣ Gorkha Royal Palace, which was the capital of the Shah dynasty. In 1559, the descendant of the founder of the northern Indian dynasty, Rish Raj Bakhat, Drabya Shah, conquered the Gorkha region and moved the capital here. Subsequently, he annexed Bhaktapur and Patan. 3⃣ Gorakh Kalika Temple, also known as Gorkha Kalika Temple, which had a tradition of human sacrifice in the past. Legend has it that when Tang Sanzang was on his journey to retrieve the scriptures, he passed by this place and nearly became a sacrifice. 🚲 As for transportation within Gorkha, I'd say there isn't much. However, these three attractions are on a straight line. You can start by walking about 3 kilometers from the city center, which takes about half an hour to reach the museum. #Gorkha Royal Palace#NepalHiking #NepalTravel #Nepal#Gorkha#nepal guide#trip diary#travel guide# Gorakh Kalika Temple# Gorkha Museum
