๐ Grandma's Kitchen | Newton
Not mind-blowing delicious, but more of a cozy neighborhood spot vibe ๐ Not Taiwanese so can't vouch for authenticity, but the value is pretty good ๐ ๐ฝ๏ธ Today's Order: ๐ Popcorn Chicken $9 Very flavorful and tender, almost has a Japanese-style karaage feel. Never had the authentic version โ would love a Taiwanese person's review. But personally thought it was quite tasty ๐ถ๏ธ Can add chili powder ๐ Sweet Potato Fries $6 First time trying this style of sweet potato fries in the US ๐ Topped with sugar crystals, crispy and pretty good. But American sweet potatoes aren't as sweet and fragrant as Chinese ones โ has that distinct "American taste." Miss the roasted sweet potatoes from Chinese autumn streets ๐ข ๐ Kamaage Udon $15 A very light udon dish, perfect for autumn/winter. Quite fresh with well-balanced seasoning. Pairs well with the popcorn chicken ๐ ๐ Salt & Pepper Pork Chop Rice $14 Overall a bit salty. Comes with minced pork sauce on the side โ also salty but delicious mixed with rice. Not the sweet braised pork style, more savory. Want to try a full portion of minced pork rice next time. The pork chop itself isn't dry. ๐ก Atmosphere Wooden tables + warm yellow lighting, walls covered with previous customers' photos โ feels very cozy overall. ๐ฐ About $20 per person ๐ ฟ๏ธ Street parking available across the street and along the road ๐ Address: 823 Washington St, Newton, MA 02460 #Boston #BostonFoodGuide #BostonLife #BostonEats #CafeMeals #Newton #LunchForWorkers
