Great Spots for Panoramic Views in Paris
After living in Paris for two years, I’ve summed up these observation decks: Arc de Triomphe 🏠 Address: Pl. Charles de Gaulle, 75008 Paris 💶 Ticket: €16 📷: Perfect for shooting the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées, and La Défense 💡 Opening hours: 10:00-22:30. Recommended to go at sunset, but note there’s no elevator—you have to climb the spiral stairs the whole way. Those with poor physical strength should proceed with caution. Tour Saint-Jacques (Saint-Jacques Tower) 🏠 Address: 39 rue de Rivoli, 75004 Paris 💶 Ticket: €12 📷 Photos 3-6: Ideal for capturing Notre-Dame de Paris, the Panthéon, the Seine, and the Eiffel Tower 💡 Opening hours: 10:00-18:00. This is the best observation deck in my book—you can take in all the famous buildings in central Paris at a glance! Highly recommend visiting at sunset. Note that it only offers 1-hour guided tours, so be sure to arrive on time. It’s only open from May 17 to November 10. Tour Montparnasse (Montparnasse Tower) 🏠 Address: 33 Av. du Maine, 75015 Paris 💶 Ticket: €18 📷 : Great for views of the Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides, and a full Paris panorama 💡 Opens at 9:30; closing time varies from 22:30 to 23:00. It’s the highest point in central Paris—excellent for shooting the Eiffel Tower, but you’ll need a telephoto lens. There’s an elevator, and it has two parts: a top floor and a terrace. It’s windy at the top, so bring something warm! Observatoire de Paris (Paris Observatory) 🏠 Address: 5 Pl. Jules Janssen, 92190 Meudon 💶 Ticket: Free 📷 : Suitable for Paris and La Défense 💡 It’s a campus of PSL University, located in Meudon. Besides the observation deck, the town itself is quiet and has a forest perfect for walking. A telephoto lens is also recommended here. Panthéon 🏠 Address: Pl. du Panthéon, 75005 Paris 💶 Ticket: €16.5 (includes interior and observation deck) 📷: Good for shooting the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, and the Latin Quarter 💡 Opening hours: 10:00-16:00/16:30. Only open from April 1 to October 31. Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, it’s great for capturing photos of nearby schools and Notre-Dame. Montmartre & Sacré-Cœur Basilica 🏠 Address: 35 Rue du Chevalier de la Barre, 75018 Paris 💶 Ticket: Free (extra charge for climbing Sacré-Cœur’s dome) 📷 : Panoramic views of Paris 💡 Perfect for sunset visits—such an artistic area! You can shoot most of central Paris with unobstructed views. Centre Pompidou (Pompidou Center) 🏠 Address: Place Georges-Pompidou, 75004 Paris 💶 Ticket: €15 📷 : Views of the Eiffel Tower, Saint-Merri, Le Marais, Notre-Dame, and the Panthéon 💡 Opening hours: 11:00-21:00. It’s mainly for visiting the exhibitions, but the view is a nice bonus. Galeries Lafayette (Lafayette Department Store) 🏠 Address: 40 Bd Haussmann, 75009 Paris 💶 Ticket: Free 📷: Views of the Paris Opera, Eiffel Tower, and Boulevard Haussmann 💡 Opening hours: 10:00-20:30. The rooftop terrace is popular, so it gets crowded. There are also many other places to enjoy Paris’,like the Ballon de Paris Generali and the top of the Eiffel Tower.
