🍛 Griddle & Rice – New Indonesian Brunch Spot in South Philly 🇮🇩

A newly opened Indonesian brunch cafe — just over a month old — tucked away in South Philly along East Passyunk Ave. Walking there, I realized I rarely explore southwest Philly… and indeed, there wasn’t much to see around 😅. But this little corner spot is warm, cozy, and cute, with a small kitchen where five staff were bustling — still feels like a neighborhood gem. The place is compact but the menu is surprisingly varied (many breakfast items are morning-only). Closes at 7 PM — we arrived at 6:30 PM and there was still a line! We weren’t very hungry, so we just grabbed a few things: 🍛 Chicken cutlet rice – huge portion, comes with a customizable spice level 🌶️. The chili sauce was perfectly matched! 🍜 Beef meatball noodle soup – two giant fried wontons, tofu, and beef meatballs. One meatball had a whole quail egg inside — such a nice surprise! 🍢 Grilled lamb skewers – well-spiced and tasty. 🧋 Indonesian milk tea – slightly soy-milk flavored, reminiscent of “soy milk jade unicorn” — sweet but not overly so. 🍓 Matcha strawberry drink – also good, not too sweet. Everything was delicious! Drinks exceeded expectations — I thought they’d be too sweet, but both were enjoyable (though still rich enough to keep me awake till 5 AM 😅). The flavors reminded me of SkyCafe near my place, but the ambiance here is nicer.
