A new Indonesian breakfast/brunch spot just opened in South Philly, and of course, we had to check it out!
My boyfriend grew up in Indonesia and loves trying all the Indo restaurants around town. We thought Sky Cafe was the best… but Griddle and Rice just changed our minds, they win!
I ordered the strawberry matcha latte (no sugar), and honestly, it’s the best I’ve had outside of Starbucks. Smooth, earthy, and perfectly balanced.
We had to try their most popular dish: the Nasi Uduk (breakfast rice platter). The fried chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, and full of flavor. It paired so well with the fragrant coconut rice and spicy sambal. We also ordered the chicken satay, and wow that peanut sauce was something else. So rich and tasty, and it came with rice cakes too.
Service was quick and efficient, which we really appreciated, especially for a busy little spot.
The space is small, definitely more of a takeout or quick dine-in spot. There are a few tables, but seating is pretty tight. That said, the menu is surprisingly extensive for such a small place. They even have pastries!
Highly recommend if you haven’t been yet. We’ll definitely be back to try more...
Read moreI grew up in Indonesia so it’s always a treat to have more Indonesian restaurants nearby. Heard so many great reviews so decided to try.
We ordered strawberry matcha and iced coffee. Both were great. Matcha was just a tad of sweet, which was perfect for me.
My husband got the OG platter and pancake. He enjoyed his meal and thought that the pancake was really fluffy!
As for me, I got their chicken porridge, which is one of my comfort food. It was good, however, the texture was too mushy for my liking. I like my porridge to have a little more texture.
I also got almost all of their Indonesian food to-go (nasi uduk, bakmi ayam, ayam geprek, sate kambing, bakso sapi). Just missing sate kambing and lontong sayur.
Their Indonesian food was really tasty! I recommend trying all of them just because they’re so different. If you are new to Indonesian food, I recommend nasi uduk (breakfast rice platter), bakso sapi (meatball soup), and bakmi ayam (chicken noodle) to start. Nasi uduk is also a great option for...
Read moreI’ve been seeing so many Instagram posts of this new place that just opened up and I wanted to check it out myself. Keep in mind this is a small place but they have about several seating . The menu is small as well they have many different beverages ranging from coffee to matcha, they have different appetizers, and a nice size breakfast menu that offers casual American to Indonesian breakfast. I only went for the strawberry matcha which was ok I def give it a 7/10. I waited less than 5 minutes which was really nice and fast! I don’t really like strawberry jam in my matcha because it sits at the bottom of my cup I’m either drinking mostly matcha or strawberry jam so I wasn’t really a big fan of that but that’s just my opinion. The matcha was good but I wish it was a bit more because it tasted mostly like milk rather than matcha. I’m gonna go back to try their coffee or something off of their food menu. I really do like this establishment all in all. Def check it out to see...
