Heisei Chishinkan๐
The main entrance of the Heisei Chishinkan is located on the site of the former Hokyo-ji temple, which once stood in front of the North Pole and the Southern Palace. ๐ This ancient pilgrimage route extends north from the Great Spirit Gate and intersects with the north-south axis of the Kyoto National Museum (an axis that stretches all the way to the Meiji Shrine). ๐ Echoing the Original Hloko-ji Temple: Before the construction of the Heisei Chishinkan, archaeological excavations by the museum uncovered numerous remains of the temple. ๐๏ธ As you walk along the corridor into the hall, you will see metal rings in the reflecting pools on either side. These mark the original positions of the columns of the North Pole South Gate (double rings) and the cloister (single rings), which are now buried underground and safely preserved. ๐ฟ #Kyoto ๐ #KyotoNationalMuseum ๐๏ธ
