Hidden Gems in the Southern U.S.: What to Do in Memphis

🏨 Hotel The Peabody Memphis Highly recommended! This historic downtown hotel is famous for its twice-daily Duck March 🦆. At 11 AM, the ducks ride the elevator from their rooftop home to the lobby fountain, where they stay until 5 PM before heading back. It’s free and open to all visitors! 🚖 Transportation Our hotel was within a 6-minute walk from Beale Street. Other attractions were just a 10-15 minute taxi ride away. For a short trip, we’d recommend using taxis instead of renting a car. 🍖 Food Charlie Vergos’ Rendezvous You can’t visit Memphis without trying BBQ! 🤤 We ordered the Cheese & Sausage and the Full Slab for Two. The ribs were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken We tried the 3-Piece Dark Meat Plate. Freshly fried and super juicy — you really can’t go wrong with classic Southern fried chicken! 🍗 Flying Fish A standard seafood restaurant. We had the Fried Crawfish Jambalaya, but it was just okay. 🐟 🌎 Attractions Day 1 Duck March at The Peabody Hotel 🦆 If you want a closer view, book an afternoon tea at the hotel in advance. Sip tea and enjoy cakes while watching the ducks! Beale Street & B.B. King’s Blues Club 🎶 We explored souvenir shops and caught a live show at the club. The vocalist was amazing — a perfect chill night. Highly recommend grabbing a drink and enjoying the music! Day 2 Memphis Zoo 🐘 Spent about three hours exploring — a fun walkthrough! Sun Studio 🎧 Tours are required (available hourly), but it’s worth it! The guide shared stories about Elvis and other music legends who recorded here. Locals prefer this over Graceland! Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid 🏹 A famous outdoor store inside a pyramid-shaped landmark. There’s also a hotel and an observation deck inside. Great for fishing and outdoor enthusiasts! Other Places to Visit: Graceland (Elvis Presley’s Home) 🎤 Stax Museum of American Soul Music 🎷 National Civil Rights Museum ✊ #Memphis #Tennessee #SouthernUSA #Travel
