๐ Holbox in LA โ Affordable 1-Michelin Star Mexican Fusion ๐ค
Disclaimer: All opinions are my own! TL;DR: A bit disappointed. Wouldnโt go out of my way for it again, but might revisit if I lived nearby. I first heard of Holbox 6 years ago from the Worth It series โ the fish taco episode! ๐ฌ Back then, I lived in LA but never made the trip. Recently, it earned its first Michelin star and ranked #42 in North America, so I finally added it to my must-try list! ๐ We arrived right at opening (11:30 AM Saturday) and still waited 35 mins to order and 50 mins to eat ๐ฎโ๐จ. The line moved fairly quickly though! ๐ก Weekdays offer a set menu โ released at the start of each month and sells out fast! ๐ฆ What We Tried & Honest Thoughts: 1๏ธโฃ Kanpachi Tostada The uniโs flavor was totally lost โ completely overpowered by the salsa ๐ . The sea urchin was fresh on its own, but in the tostada? All you taste is salsa. 2๏ธโฃ Erizo (Sea Urchin Dish) ๐ This one was delicious! Lightly seasoned to let the seafoodโs natural sweetness shine ๐. Sea urchin on top, scallop underneath โ simple and satisfying. 3๏ธโฃ Scallop Aguachile A refreshing scallop ceviche with a strong lime kick ๐. If youโre not into sour flavors, you might want to skip this one. 4๏ธโฃ Taco de Pulpo en su Tinta (Octopus Taco) Not sure what the black sauce was, but it tasted like seafood paella rolled into a taco ๐ฎ! Pretty good, and at $7, not overpriced. ๐ Personal Ranking: Erizo > Octopus Taco >> Scallop Aguachile = Kanpachi Tostada ๐ธ Price: ~$120 for two (pre-tip) ๐๏ธ Vibe: Located in a food court โ zero ambiance, long wait. Final Take: Not every dish wowed me. If you dislike sour flavors, some items might be a miss. Considering the wait, location, and hit-or-menu, it didnโt feel totally worth it for me. #HolboxLA #MichelinStar #MexicanFusion #LARestaurants #FoodReview #SeaUrchin
