Hollywood Thompson | First Time Staying at Thompson – So Chill! 🏨✨

🏨 So far my favorite stay in LA: Thompson Hollywood by Hyatt Touted as the best Hyatt property in LA, and in the broader U.S. hotel scene, getting this level of treatment for $300+ per night is pretty impressive! There are many highlights… but also quite a few downsides 😅 1️⃣ Hotel Design Feels Like an Upgraded Andaz Hyatt’s different brands often feel kinda similar—like Andaz, Thompson, Dream, JdV Tommie… Especially these four “sisters” in LA. Their booking pages look almost identical! 🌿 Thompson’s design incorporates lots of greenery, leather, European walnut, marble, and homely art pieces. The lobby feels like walking into a stylish home decor boutique. The rooms, though, are more Andaz-like—bright minty color schemes clashing everywhere, reviving that retro 1960s Hollywood vibe. 🏖️ We booked two rooms. One didn’t get upgraded at all, the other was upgraded to a 42 sqm junior suite—but no balcony, poor natural light, just one small window. The front desk said, “Too many Globalists, rooms are tight,” so no better upgrades for us. 💥 Also, this Thompson and the neighboring Tommie are being taken over by Marriott. They’ll rebrand in January—so Bonvoy elite folks, get ready! 2️⃣ Breakfast: $42 per Person at the Rooftop Pool Bar – Great Vibes! Most U.S. hotels use à la carte breakfast—rarely buffet or semi-buffet. It’s great for reducing waste, but there’s an extra service charge not included in the $42. But I’ve always loved American breakfasts—huge portions! Iced americano + breakfast combo + half a bagel + sharing a burrito with a friend = stuffed! 🥯🌯 Plus, the rooftop bar has such a cool atmosphere—pool views of the Hollywood Hills are gorgeous. 3️⃣ Service & Details Fell Short + Safety Concerns The front desk told me Globalists get 2 small waters daily. I called three times on the second day for water—no one came. At checkout, I saw staff bringing some up… but I was already leaving with my luggage. When I mentioned it, they said, “Globalists can exchange happy hour tickets for large Evian bottles—worth $10 each!” So I grabbed three bottles on my way out 💧💦 Also, the lobby security guards were smoking weed at night 🍃—seriously doubt they could keep anyone safe. The area feels empty except for lots of homeless people. It gets pretty scary after dark. Oh, and the gym and guest corridors always smelled like rotten eggs… 🤢 Have you stayed at Thompson Hollywood?
