How to Plan a Spontaneous Short Trip to Maine Towns

Booked a hotel last minute for just over $100, ate incredibly fresh giant oysters, bought Patagonia at more than half off, visited three breweries in a row, played at one of Maine’s top 5 most beautiful disc golf courses, and even picked up three boxes of sea urchin and monkfish liver sashimi at ISF Trading before heading home… This spontaneous road trip was so satisfying! Most of our spots were in Southern Maine—Freeport and Brunswick. It’s just over a 2-hour drive from Boston, making it perfect for a 2-day trip. Full List of Attractions Maine Maritime Museum: A museum featuring all kinds of nautical vessels, including lobster boats. Great for anyone interested in maritime history or Maine’s fishing culture 🚤. Flight Deck Brewing: An ultra-cool brewery with airplane-themed decor—it’s housed in a former hangar! Perfect for beer lovers who want a unique vibe šŸ»āœˆļø. Bowdoin College Museum of Art: A free art museum with a nice collection—ideal for a relaxing break from outdoor activities šŸŽØ. Freeport Patagonia Outlet: Not sure if it was a holiday special, but everything in the store had an extra 40% off! Sizes were fully stocked, and the styles were great. Right next door is the L.L.Bean flagship store—don’t miss it if you love outdoor gear šŸ›ļø. Wilbur’s Of Maine Chocolate Confections: A chocolate factory that also sells blueberry pie (a Maine classic!). Sweet tooths, this one’s for you šŸ«šŸ«. Wolfeā€˜s Neck Woods State Park: A state park with stunning coastal hiking trails. If the weather’s nice, it’s a fantastic spot to watch sunrise or sunset šŸŒ…. Sabattus Disc Golf Course: Ranked among Maine’s top 1 or 2 disc golf courses. It has small streams and waterfalls—beautiful and fun to play on šŸ„. Maine Beer Company: A minimalist-style IPA brewery. We ordered two 5oz IPAs for just $6, and the server even waved the bill—such a nice surprise! Pineland Farms: Home to Maine’s 5th-ranked disc golf course and an animal farm. You can see baby chicks, ducklings, and cows—great for a family-friendly stop šŸ„. Maine Wildlife Park: A zoo where you can see moose (a Maine icon!)—admission is only $10 🦬. ISF Trading (On the Way Home): Don’t forget to stop at this super popular spot to buy sea urchin sashimi! It’s best to pre-order if you can šŸ¦ž. Bissell Brothers: A must-visit brewery for craft beer enthusiasts šŸ». Next door, there’s a quirky cryptozoology museum and a children’s museum—fun for a quick detour. #BostonWeekend #Maine #BostonSurroundings #BostonDayTrips #WhatToDoInBostonWeekends #Patagonia #NewEnglandTowns #MaineTravel #StateOfMaine #MaineStateTravel
