Room 320 Ding Guandeng's "The Teaching of the Law" 📜 This massive silk painting from the Qing Dynasty measures 5.25 meters in height and 9.5 meters in width, making it the largest known piece of Qing court painting. The original artwork is displayed five times daily at 11:15 AM, 12:45 PM, 2:15 PM, 3:45 PM, and 5:15 PM, with each session lasting 15 minutes. 🖼️✨ Ding Guandeng was a renowned court painter during the Qing Dynasty. He entered the court in the fourth year of the Yongzheng era (1726) and served alongside his brother Ding Guanzhe at the Nanjing Palace. Early in his career, he studied under Lang Shining and Wang Zhicheng, integrating both Eastern and Western techniques while emphasizing three-dimensionality. He was promoted to "First-Class Painter" during the Qianlong reign and excelled in depicting Buddhist and Taoist figures, as well as landscapes. Notable works include "The Seven Fairies" (1748), an imitation of Gu Kaizhi's "Nymph of the Luo River" (1754), and "Amitayus Buddha" (1761). His masterpiece "The Teaching of the Law" was completed in August 1770, in collaboration with Chen Mei and Sun Xiao on "Spring Dawn at Dan Terrace." 🌸🎨 "The Teaching of the Law" depicts the theme of the Buddha teaching the Dharma. In the center, the lotus pond of Amitabha’s Pure Land is flanked by the Buddha, with Ananda, Mahakasyapa, Manjushri, Samantabhadra, the Eight Dragon Kings, the Four Heavenly Kings, Arhats, and other disciples forming a radiating assembly around him.
