I was blown away every time I passed by
đ 1696 Douglas St, Victoria, BC V8W 2G6 Itâs in Victoria Downtown. The restaurant looks spacious from the outside, but there arenât too many tablesâmost people come for the BBQ. The smoke extraction is just so-so, so the place is always hazy with smoke when you walk in đ . Every time I pass by, the aroma is irresistible, but donât get your hopes too highâyou might end up disappointed if you actually go đźâđš. There arenât many servers. A friend said they used to help with grilling, but Iâm not sure about nowâthey definitely didnât help us, and we always had to wait ages whenever we needed something đ«€. The complimentary appetizers are a plus, thoughâthere are lots of small plates, and they all taste pretty good đ. Combo for 6 đ°285 There were only five of us, but we hesitated and still ordered the 6-person BBQ comboâit looked so loaded đ€€. When it came, most of it was big chunks of marinated meat: chicken, beef, lamb, and pork. But the freshness felt just so-so, and the meat didnât have a strong flavor. Plus, weâre not great at grillingâwe didnât cut or flip the meat in time, so some pieces got overcooked and tough, making them hard to chew đŹ. The BBQ was a letdown, but the side dishes in the combo were good! The yukhoe (raw marinated beef) was well-seasonedâmixed with a raw egg and raw garlic to get rid of the fishy taste. The raw garlic was crisp and slightly spicy, and paired with radish strips, it had a refreshing texture đ. The japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) was on the sweet side. The sweet potato noodles were soft and sticky, mixed with minced beef and veggiesâI really liked it đ. The haemul pajeon (seafood pancake) was just average. There were a bit too many green onions, and the seafood mostly came from octopus tentacles. The dipping sauce was the saving graceâwithout it, it wouldâve been totally flavorless đ. Gopchang Gui (Grilled Beef Intestines) đ°40 There was more chives than intestines! It came fully cooked, then they cut it up and stir-fried it with chives. The intestinesâ skin wasnât crispy, and the inside was slimyâmaybe it was oil? It had a slight greasy aftertaste and only a little saltiness. Not my cup of tea đ«€. Gamjatang (Pork Spine & Potato Soup) đ°23/49 So good! Even the small portion had tons of ribs. The ribs were stewed until tenderâwith a light nudge of chopsticks, the meat fell right off the bone đ„ą. Mixed with veggies, the seasoning and spiciness were perfect. Way better than the BBQ! đ Kimchi jjigae (Kimchi Stew) đ°20 I barely remembered this dishâafter seeing photos, I thought hard and only recalled that the tofu was tender, and the soup was a bit too salty đ¶. #Canada #CanadaFood #VancouverIsland #VancouverDayTrip #Victoria #Foodie #LifeSnippets #FoodTour #MyDailyLife #WhatInternationalStudentsEat #RestaurantRecommendation #GlobalFoodSquad #FoodCollector #FoodCheckIn #SoloDining #KoreanFood #VictoriaFood
