Immersed in Newfoundland: The Rooms 🏛️

📍 Address: 9 Bonaventure Ave, St. John's, NL A1C 5P9 The Rooms is a captivating blend of museum, art gallery, and archives—all under one roof! 🎨🏺 Dedicated to showcasing Newfoundland’s natural history, culture, and human stories, this gem offers a rich dive into the province’s soul. Its architecture is a highlight too: designed to resemble the charming, stacked fishing cottages of coastal Newfoundland, every beam and brick feels like a nod to the island’s heritage. It’s a place that doesn’t just display history—it feels like part of it. Here, exhibitions focus on Newfoundland’s past, traditions, and geography, weaving together a vivid, comprehensive picture of the province’s journey. Like all great museums, The Rooms is a treasure trove of knowledge, where every corner invites you to learn, wonder, and connect with the land and its people. ✨ A Little Detour, Then Smooth Sailing 🌟 Our visit had a tiny adventure: when we arrived early, we were gently informed that a precautionary check was underway, so the opening time was temporarily uncertain. No worries though—we explored nearby spots for a bit, and later, my daughter found a public update confirming a 12:00 PM opening. We headed back with excitement, and that short wait only made the experience feel more special. Sometimes the best moments come with a little patience! 😊 Wildlife Wonders & Engaging Exhibits 🦌🌿 The wildlife exhibits were absolute showstoppers! 🐻🦅 From lifelike animal specimens to interactive displays of Newfoundland’s ecosystems, these exhibits felt vibrant and alive—like stepping into the province’s wild landscapes without leaving the building. While some of the more specialized historical content had complex terms (a great excuse to dive deeper later!), the wildlife section was easy to love, making learning feel like an adventure for everyone. It’s a perfect spot to spark curiosity, whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart! 🧒👩🔬 Lunch with a View at The Rooms Cafe 🍲🌊 We’d heard great things about The Rooms Cafe on the fourth floor, and it didn’t disappoint! 🥘 Settle in by the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, and you’ll be treated to a view that’s nothing short of spectacular: Signal Hill in the distance, the vast North Atlantic stretching out, fishing boats bobbing gently, and church steeples peeking through the skyline—all blending into a scene that looks like a giant, living painting. 🖼️ The food? Delicious! Their seafood chowder was outstanding—creamy, packed with fresh seafood, and easily the best we’ve had so far. 🦞 The duck dish and pasta were also fantastic, each bursting with flavor that felt homey yet special. Even the fish cakes had their own charm, though we’d admit we’re partial to the ones we tried at the cozy seafood store in Rocky Harbour—different styles, both delightful! Every bite tasted better with that ocean view as our backdrop. 🌊 A Quiet, Cloudy Beauty ☁️ On our visit, the sky was draped in soft, thick clouds—no bright blue, but that only added to the magic. The light was gentle, making the distant views crystal clear, and the whole scene exuded a calm, serene beauty. It felt like nature was putting on a quiet, intimate show just for us. 💕 The Rooms isn’t just a museum—it’s a gateway to Newfoundland’s heart. Whether you’re here for history, art, great food, or that unbeatable view, it’s a must-visit that’ll leave you with a deeper love for this incredible province. 🌟 #Newfoundland #NewfoundlandRoadTrip #CanadaGetaway #StJohnsTravel #StJohnsAttractions #StJohnsDining #CulturalGems #TheRooms #MuseumMagic 🌍✨
