Indianapolis|Tian Fu Asian Bistro

Stopped by Tian Fu Asian Bistro for lunch after a Costco run in Indy — a local friend recommended it, and it’s one of the better Chinese options around here! Funny enough, I thought “Tian Fu” was the Sichuan (as in Chengdu), but it’s actually (Heavenly Blessing) 😂. Still, the food speaks for itself! Ambience 🏮 The restaurant has traditional Chinese decor with a classic, elegant vibe. It was busy with local Indy folks — even saw a birthday celebration! One standout feature: the open kitchen behind a glass wall 👨🍳👀 — you can watch the chefs wok-toss everything with skill and speed. Clean and transparent — loved it! What we ordered 📝 🥗 Appetizer: Wood Ear Mushroom with Wild Chili A refreshing cold dish — perfect for a hot day! Generous portion of crunchy wood ear mushrooms with green/red peppers and pickled chilies (probably canned). Light, tangy, and spicy — highly recommend! Note: They really love wood ear mushrooms here 😆. If you want something different, try the Couple’s Beef Tripe — heard it’s good too! 🍲 Mains: Dry Pot Fish 🐟🌶️ The fish is fried first, then wok-tossed in a spicy numbing sauce. Tender inside, crispy outside. Served sizzling over charcoal fire 🔥. Includes bamboo shoots, mushrooms, wood ear, and konjac! Eat it quick — the crispiness softens if left too long. Stir-Fried Pork Kidney Northern-style preparation — no strong gamey taste, but a bit overcooked and less tender. As a Sichuanese, I prefer it spicier and more explosive in flavor 😅. 🍜 Soup: West Lake Beef Soup A Northern version with minced beef, mushrooms, soft tofu, peppercorn, and salt. Lightly thickened and finished with sesame oil and scallions (could use more scallions for color though!). Smooth, balanced, and comforting — the first dish we finished! 🥬 Vegetable Dish: Stir-Fried Three Mushrooms A simple, clean stir-fry with king oyster, shiitake, and wood ear mushrooms + carrots, snow peas, and green peas. Light, healthy, and perfect after richer dishes. Final thoughts ✅ Portions are generous — we packed leftovers of the mushrooms and dry pot fish. This meal came to $75 (we over-ordered lol — two mains would be enough for two people). Average dish: $10–20. Normal per person: ~$30. ➕ Big plus: Open kitchen — you see every dish cooked fresh to order 👏. No pre-made stuff here! 📍 Also super convenient — just 2 minutes from Costco. Groceries + meal = done! 📸 Menu attached for reference — go explore! #Indianapolis #PurdueEats #ChineseFood #IndyFood #OpenKitchen
