Pros: The menu offers authentic Chinese food in many varieties. Some dishes were cooked well, and some were just okay. They used lots of oil in their cooking. I could see a puddle of oil in each dish we ordered, even a stir-fried vegetable. It was yummy but not very healthy. But overall, chefs did a great job, and probably the best Chinese restaurant I found near Indy. Cons: 1) I went a few times and found the servers/male manager unable to understand anything about food allergies. Not only did they seem to have a language barrier, but also not trained on how to handle our request. The male manager was unfriendly. They surely didn't understand what cross-contamination was. Eg. when I asked if the dish could be contaminated with my allergens, they didn't even check and said there shouldn't be. We know Chinese kitchens use the same big spoon to dip in different containers with egg, oil, and sauces while cooking in woks, even if the food doesn't contain certain allergens, cross-contamination is high. But they didn't seem to be able to recommend what was safe to eat, or help tell the kitchen to take caution. I had to use my past restaurant running experience to judge, eg. order steamed dumplings that never touched the wok, or roasted duck. 2) I ordered a few dishes, and one was stir-fry scallops with veg. Veg was hot, but the scallops were undercooked. The center of the scallops was cold. I told the lady server, and she just replied, "Oh, it's uncooked in the center", then she took off. I thought she would at least offer to bring it back to the kitchen to recook. Then she brought the check to our table, and saw I didn't touch the scallop. I told her, "I have to bring them home to cook them myself". She just gave me a box to take them home, as if it was ok to serve uncooked food and let the customer cook again at home. She wasn't mean, but just not very professional, like most of the American food restaurants.
I wish they could be better trained, and they have someone who can communicate well for safety and better service, because I like their food and authenticity. I think they can do better if they want to, or hire the...
Read moreFirst of all the owner/people working here are amazing and saved my Thanksgiving. I was making Peking Duck for a potluck and was already 3 days into the drying process, I needed last minute cucumbers and scallions. All other stores closed early so I was hosed. Then I thought maybe I can go to a restaurant and buy some. After explaining my situation to the owner/front desk guy, he went into the kitchen to ask and came back and ended up giving me some supply from the kitchen all for free! It made my week and the duck was a huge success. Thank you Tian Fu staff! In terms of logistics, the online menu prices are not updated. I ordered the Mongolian Three and the official online menu said it was $8.45 but it was actually $9.95. Still came out to $10.85. Which was still a decent deal.
The hot and sour soup was tasty and good but bland, I typically prefer a stronger sour and spicy taste. The Mongolian Three was also tasty, but it was clearly fried first, which I didn't like for health reasons. There were only 2 small pieces of shrimp, I was hoping to get a bit more, otherwise I would perhaps just have gone with the Mongolian beef instead. The dish itself could also have used a bit more heat. The egg fried rice was passable, not that great. I do like that they provide a bunch of deep fried extras if you like that, they were all amazingly tasty but again, for health reasons, I try to avoid them. Vegetable egg roll, crab rangoon, and fried dough sticks for the soup, I ate them like chips.
I do like that they give you these cute reusable takeout bags and it felt better than the cheapo plastic ones. It will be my lunch bag from now on. Free advertising for them :)
Had their Chinese menu multiple times. My church catered from them for our 50th anniversary and it was decent. They have a very good Cantonese banquet menu for wedding receptions or company events. They also have decent Szechuan style menu items. I really enjoyed their combination soup noodle, that definitely felt like home cooking. The spicy and sour soup noodle tasted...
Read moreTerrible...We have been there 2 times and both times, they tried to scam us. Last night, we went there for my husband's birthday and it will be our last trip. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. We both ordered All you can eat sushi, and the sushi was good, but it was alot more rice than usual and each roll was much smaller than usual... I have had better sushi from Kroger for cheaper. Well, the reson for this, we found out when we got our bill is because whatever sushi you have left on your plate at the end, they charge you $1.00 apiece for it (no matter if you take it home or not) Keep in mind, we did not order 1 single refill and paid $50 for the first orders. They did not make us aware of this before, just started counting our sushi that we COULD NOT EAT because they were so full of rice and they cut them into extra small pieces to be able to charge more, as they are $1 apiece! What a scam!!! When we asked why we were being charged $85 now instead of $65, they went on to ask,"Do you get a take out box at a buffet?"... Very rude. The first time we went, I ordered a bottle of house wine, and when I got my bill I had been charged for the most expensive bottle of wine. She acted like they were out of the one I asked for, but she never even asked if that was okay. I now know, theu are scamming EVERYONE... The guy making the sushi told us this happens alot. We ended up tipping the $15 they were charging us for the left over sushi, because we wanted them to know it is not about the money, IT IS THE PRINCIPLE. You do scam people! Ruined our birthday dinner. DO...
