Introducing Taos Pueblo… 🏜️

Let’s talk about one of the few UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the United States—Taos Pueblo. Yes, the U.S. actually has those! 😲 Located in northern New Mexico, Taos Pueblo is a traditional village continuously inhabited by the Taos Pueblo people for over a thousand years. 🏡 It’s also one of the most famous of the 32 Pueblo communities—partly thanks to the excellent ski resort behind it, Taos Ski Valley! 🎿⛰️ I’ve always found the Pueblo People fascinating. Without horses or iron tools, they built thousands of villages across the American Southwest over a millennium. Among the most impressive are Pueblo Bonito in Chaco Canyon and Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde National Park—both of which I’ve visited. But Taos Pueblo is unique: it’s one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities. Unfortunately, no photography is allowed inside. 📵 But honestly, it’s not a huge loss—the interiors are dimly lit, and only the outer rooms are lived in today. The inner sections are mainly used for storage. 🏚️ The concept of “Pueblo” itself is pretty interesting. When the Spanish arrived, they called the local village-dwellers “Puebloans.” But these groups actually spoke different languages—they just shared similar lifestyles and beliefs. What’s even more remarkable? A Tewa Pueblo religious leader named Po’pay actually organized a revolt using Spanish—and successfully expelled the Spanish from New Mexico for 12 years! ✊🏞️ This was one of the few times during the Spanish colonization of the Americas that Indigenous people fought back and won. In that sense, the Pueblo cultural legacy stands tall alongside the Inca and Maya. 👑🗿 You can easily explore Taos Pueblo in about half an hour. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Native American history, culture, or architecture—but even if you’re just passing through, it’s totally worth a stop! ✅ #Travel #Photography #NewMexico #SouthwestUSA #Taos #WorldHeritage
