Taos, New Mexico ๐ Is This Even Real? ๐ฎ๐๏ธ
Stepping into Taos Pueblo feels like entering a video game world โ but itโs real! This is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the U.S., with a history stretching back over 1,000 years. What amazed me most? People here still maintain traditional ways of living โ no electricity or running water in some homes. ๐ ๐ Located just 15 km from downtown Taos, this UNESCO World Heritage site (listed in 1992) preserves ancient Pueblo architecture and culture. The multi-story adobe buildings, made from sun-dried bricks of sand, clay, and straw, are perfectly adapted to the desert climate. ๐๐งฑ These structures showcase incredible ingenuity: Walls are thick to keep interiors cool Traditional homes had no doors or windows โ entry was through roof openings via ladder (for defense!) The iconic โTaos Blueโ painted doors and windows were added later We tried freshly baked bread from a local home โ slightly sweet and salty, similar to Cantonese ngaau lei sou . ๐๐ค And donโt miss: Taos Cow ๐ฆ (736 Kit Carson Rd) for amazing local ice cream The adorable Adobe-style McDonaldโs โ probably the most unique one youโll ever see! โ ๏ธ Remember: Some areas are off-limits to visitors. Always respect local culture and privacy. ๐ฎ๐ฌ If you love history, culture, and landscapes that feel like another world โ Taos Pueblo is absolutely worth the $25 entry. We left feeling inspired! #Taos #NewMexico #UNESCO #CulturalTravel #AdobeArchitecture #HiddenGems
