Inspired by The Bridges of Madison County and Green Book, I finally visited Iowa! While it’s not a typical tourist hotspot, this Midwest state has its own quiet charm – especially in spring or fall. Here’s my itinerary: 🏛️ Des Moines (Capital of Iowa) Iowa State Capitol – Stunning gold-domed building with panoramic views. Downtown East Village – Quaint shops, cafes, and historic vibes. Cedar Coverage Bridge 🌉 – The iconic covered bridge (from the movie!) where deer often roam nearby. 🦌 Laughing Crab 🦀 – Great seafood spot in West Des Moines. 🎓 Ames (30-min drive from Des Moines) Iowa State University – Beautiful campus worth exploring. 🇳🇱 Pella (30-min drive from Des Moines) A charming Dutch village with windmills, tulip gardens 🌷, and traditional architecture. Lake Red Rock 🏞️ – Perfect for a scenic detour. Outlets of Des Moines – Small but has Nike, Coach, MK, etc. 🏛️ Cedar Rapids National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library – Fascinating cultural spot. Adjacent Czech Village – Cute streets with European vibes. 🎓 Iowa City University of Iowa – Gorgeous campus! Herbert Hoover Presidential Library 🏛️ – Former U.S. president’s historic site. Amish Country 🚜 – Experience traditional farming life (30-min drive). Outlets & Marketplace Williamsburg – Small but fun for shopping. 🏞️ Maquoketa Caves State Park Explore caves and trails – especially stunning during fall foliage! 🍂 Final Tips: Visit in spring for tulips or fall for colors!
