Iran🇮🇷 | The Only Food Notes
This is the first time I've only written one food note for an entire country. The common dishes in Iran are mostly various types of kebab, mutton soup, or mushy dishes. The choices and flavors are really limited. I'm just recording the places I've eaten at. None of them are particularly delicious, but none are really bad either. Tehran 📍 Baccara Cafe A popular trendy café among young people. I tried saffron tea and tiramisu. The tea comes in a small pot, which lasts a long time. The cake is a bit too sweet. The average cost per person is 200,000 tomans. Shiraz 📍 Golbahari A restaurant near the Grand Bazaar. A serving of pot rice with baked beef patties is enough for two people. For drinks, I had melon smoothie and saffron tea. Don't let them add sugar to the juice. The average cost per person is 250,000 tomans. 📍 Soofi Restaurant Nice ambiance near the Shrine of Shah Cheragh. One serving of kebab with saffron rice and one serving of dizi with flatbread is more than enough for two girls. The kebab here comes with sour pomegranate seeds, which are great for cutting the greasiness. It's worth a try, but it's a bit expensive. The average cost per person is 300,000 tomans. Isfahan 📍 Bahar Narenj Cafe The dome and mural decorations are very beautiful. The American coffee is surprisingly fragrant. The honey cake is predictably very sweet but has a strong dairy flavor, which pairs well with coffee. The average cost per person is 200,000 tomans (about ¥30). 📍 Chehel Sotoun Juice Shop Many locals also come here. An ice cream scoop costs 15,000 tomans (about ¥2). I tried the saffron flavor, which is quite unique and has many granules inside. It's a bit sweet but definitely worth a try. 📍 Azadegan Tea House A popular local restaurant. The entire place is decorated with antique tea sets. Even at 3 p.m., there's a queue. The signature dish is Dizi bean and mutton soup for 200,000 tomans (about ¥30). It's best eaten with flatbread soaked in the soup. The soup has a strong mutton flavor, but there's not a single piece of meat in it 😂. It tastes good but is not very satisfying. Many people order yogurt here, but I suggest you avoid it. It has some strange spices, making it salty and overpowering, and it's almost undrinkable. Mashhad 📍 Laleh Restaurant It has a low Google rating, but it seems to be one of the few mutton soup shops near the shrine. A bowl of mixed soup costs 150,000 tomans (about ¥22) with bread. The portion is generous, but the taste is a bit gamey. 📍 مرغ بریان رضا A popular roast chicken shop near the Grand Bazaar. The chicken wrap is better and cheaper than the roast chicken. It costs 110,000 tomans for a large one. A half roast chicken is 150,000 tomans, but the meat is dry and tasteless. The roast chicken wings are better than the drumsticks and roast chicken. #Iran #Mashhad #Tehran #Shiraz #Isfahan #FoodRecommendations #Travel #IranianFood
