Japanese-Style Pasta by the Sea – An Unexpectedly Perfect Combo! 🍝🌊

Still exploring all the delicious eats and drinks near my home in South Bay! This spot has been open for a while—since early this year, I believe. My Japanese friend has already been, and every time I pass by, the vibe just feels so inviting~ ✨ Their specialty is itameshi (イタメシ), a Japanese-Italian fusion cuisine that’s been popular in Japan for over a century. The owner, Takashi Sada, first tried pasta when he was 9 years old in Japan. He also runs the restaurant Japonica, and this is his first itameshi-focused venture in the South Bay. The interior features white brick walls, metal furniture, and illustrated menu murals—very modern and minimalist~ 🧱🪑🎨 I feel like compared to the more traditional Japanese-Italian spots in Gardena, this place suits the relaxed, beachy vibe of Redondo Beach even more. The menu is concise—which I love! If you’re like me and enjoy trying a little of everything, you can come back occasionally to sample different pastas. 🍴 I ordered the Unico Bolognese (Wagyu bacon meat sauce pasta), the Burrata Caprese Salad (with cherry tomatoes, Stracciatella cheese, basil, olive oil, and honey), and the Chicken Alfredo Pasta (made with free-range chicken breast, asparagus, onions, and mushrooms). So delicious~!! 😋 But compared to my secret all-time favorite spot (which I’ll introduce next time, haha!), this one comes in a close second. Pro tip: It’s definitely more budget-friendly to visit for weekday lunch! They offer combo deals where you can get pasta at a lower price than on the dinner menu, plus a salad and bread~ 🥖🥗 Unico Tokyo Pasta 1310 S Pacific Coast Hwy, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 Have you tried Japanese-style Italian food before?
