Junction Bridge | Experience the Swinging Bridge & Riverside Tram ๐
๐ Quick Intro Junction Bridge is a well-known landmark in Arkansas ๐ โ one of only two surviving railroad bridges in Little Rock! It connects Little Rock and North Little Rock across the Arkansas River. Originally built in 1884 for train transport, its engineering highlight was a rotating midsection that allowed boats to pass along the river ๐ข. By the 1980s, the bridge had retired from active use, but in 2008, it was revitalized as a pedestrian and cyclist-only pathway ๐ถโ๏ธ๐ดโ๏ธ. Its original industrial charm has been preserved, making it a must-see symbol of the city. ๐ Personal Experience 1๏ธโฃ Located in the Downtown & River Market District, the area is full of small shops and restaurants โ perfect for a stroll and photos ๐ธ. 2๏ธโฃ The space around the bridge is spacious. On the Little Rock side, thereโs a lovely little park with greenery, benches, and rocks โ ideal for relaxing walks and chats ๐. Plus, weekend parking is free! ๐ ฟ๏ธโผ๏ธ 3๏ธโฃ The bridgeโs viewing platform is a perfect spot to pause and take in the views. At sunset, the breeze feels amazing ๐. Looking down from the bridge, you can spot the USS Razorback (SS-394) โ a submarine that served from 1944 ๐ณ๏ธ (see Figs. 6-7). Itโs now part of the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum and open for tours! 4๏ธโฃ Across the bridge, youโll find a charming riverside amusement park ๐ with a carousel, a mini roller coaster ๐ข, and other kid-friendly rides โ great for a family day out. 5๏ธโฃ After crossing, walk to the Simmons Bank Arena Stop ๐ and hop on the free river tram to cross back! The tram is super fun inside, and the drivers and staff are super friendly โ theyโll chat and recommend local spots to explore. โ Overall Impression Spending 2โ3 hours here is relaxed and enjoyable โ but be sure to check the bridgeโs night closure times so you donโt get stranded! Iโve heard the bridge looks gorgeous with its evening lights too ๐. #Little Rock #Arkansas #HistoricBridge #ArkansasRiver #TravelDiaries #WeekendInUSA
