Kandy Guide
From Dambulla to Kandy: The bus doesn’t depart from the main bus station. Instead, wait at the bus stop diagonally opposite the Golden Temple. Air-conditioned buses cost over 400 rupees, while non-air-conditioned ones are around 200 rupees. If you want to travel faster and more comfortably in Sri Lanka, I recommend taking the air-conditioned bus 🚌. The journey takes a little over 2 hours. Ride-hailing apps still don’t work in Kandy. After getting off the bus, take a public bus or a tuk-tuk (remember to bargain! 🛺). Kandy is like a small mountain city, and most accommodations are on the hills 🏔️. Attractions are concentrated near the Temple of the Tooth Relic, within easy reach. Temple of the Tooth Relic: Ticket is 2000 rupees. For shoe storage, you can tip as you like—50 rupees is enough. There are ceremonies at three times: 5:30, 9:30, and 18:30. Actually, you can finish visiting the inside quite quickly. The temple isn’t large, so you can it in a short time. Then, go up the stairs on the left side of the exit to visit a museum. It’s free with the Temple of the Tooth Relic ticket 🎫. Opposite the exit is the International Buddhist Museum, which is also free with the temple ticket. Nearby, there are also the Kandy National Museum, and the Royal Bath (Ulpen Geya) 🏛️. A bit farther away is the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. It features various plants and trees planted by celebrities. The tree planted by Premier Zhou is located at the top right of the roundabout-like area at the back—you need to walk all the way to the end. Now the ticket has increased to over 3000 rupees 🌳. If you want to enjoy a high-angle view of the Kandy River and street scenes, navigate to Arthur‘s Seat View Point, Kandy. No need to wait for sunset as the angle isn’t right 🌇. Kandy Food Street: Near Sahas Uyana. There are electronic screens displaying food and prices. Take a photo of what you want to eat, tell the counter staff, pay and get a receipt, then pick up your order at the corresponding window. Various snacks cost between a few cents and a few yuan. It’s quite clean and hygienic, with cheap and tasty snacks 🍢. There are also shopping malls nearby to explore 🛍️. There are many juice shops here. I think the juice is quite natural without additives. At Mihiri Foods, the price of juice is around 150-180 rupees 🥤. Juice shops also offer local fruit salads: a cup with various fruits at the bottom and an ice cream scoop on top. The price is also very cheap 🍨. Hostel Accommodation: Lazy Bear Best Hostel in Kandy, around 5 dollars per night 🛏️. #Kandy #KandySri #TravelDestinations #Temple
