Kandy trip guide--Ambuluwawa Tower and Temple of the Tooth
🗼Ambuluwawa Tower: It is said that this is the place closest to heaven, located in Gampola at an altitude of 3567 feet. The tower is estimated to be about 50 meters tall, beautiful, mysterious, and dangerous. The lower levels can be accessed via internal stairs, while reaching the higher levels requires ascending external stairs that wrap around the tower. The higher you go, the narrower the stairs become, barely accommodating two people passing at the same time. Descending from the top of the tower requires slow movement while pressed against those ascending. 🛕Temple of the Tooth: This is a temple built within a royal palace, located by the Kandy Lake, and is a world-renowned Buddhist pilgrimage site famous for housing the tooth relic of the Buddha Shakyamuni. The Sacred Tooth Relic played a significant role in ancient politics because people at the time believed that whoever possessed the tooth could rule the world. Kandy, the last capital of the Sinhalese kings, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998, partly due to the presence of the Temple of the Tooth. #trip diary #trip guide #Ambuluwawa Tower# Temple of the Tooth#kandy
