Kathmandu's Great Stupa
🩵Compared to several Durbar Squares, the Great Stupa is my personal favorite. I don't know why, but I am particularly fascinated by the "eyes" on the stupa, so I bought a pair of hand-painted "heavenly eyes" at a shop in the square. ✨The area around the Great Stupa is a gathering place for the Tibetan community in Nepal. Here, you will see many monks in red robes and many Tibetan restaurants. Many people who practice Buddhism also live in this area. 🌈The Great White Stupa of Nepal, also known as Boudhanath Stupa: ● Origin Legend: According to Nepalese historical records, a woman asked the king who ruled the Kathmandu Valley for a piece of land the size of a water buffalo skin to build a stupa. After the king agreed, she cut the water buffalo skin into thin strings to enclose a large piece of land and built this stupa. ● Construction Era: It is said to have been built around the 5th century AD, about 1600 years ago. Some also claim it has a history of more than 1500 years. ● Religious Significance: It is a sacred site of Tibetan Buddhism and is considered one of the sources of Tibetan Buddhism. The stupa is adorned with a huge "Eye of Wisdom," symbolizing the Buddha's wisdom, watching over all directions. ● Historical Changes: In the transition between spring and summer in 2015, Nepal suffered a major earthquake, causing cracks in the top of the Great White Stupa, and the internal structure of the golden spire was damaged and loosened. Later, the Chinese Temple funded the repair of the kora path and collected and donated funds to renovate the golden spire. #Kathmandu'sGreatStupa #Stupa #TibetanBuddhism #NepalTravel #Nepal #KathmanduStrategy #Faith #PowerOfFaith #BuddhistCulture #BuddhistSacredSite
