Kneeled Down for This đ! Bellpine Is the "Gorgeous Meal" Champion!
As someone from Seattle, I finally checked out Bellpine, the viral "gorgeous meal" spot in Portland! I used to rant about Seattleâs high-rise restaurant Ascend being "all looks no taste"âbut sitting at Bellpineâs table, I realized: a truly "gorgeous meal" should be as delicious as it is photogenic! Thanks to my generous friend treating me, I got to enjoy this feast where "every dish makes you want to post it online"âright after eating, I ranked it #1 on my "Portland Must-Visit List"! The restaurantâs vibe wins first: warm brown wooden tables paired with vintage brass pendant lights, niche artistsâ illustrations on the walls, even the tableware is delicate white porcelain plates with silver spoons. The lighting is soft enough that food photos look appetizing without filters. As soon as we sat down, the server handed us the menuâevery dishâs photo made us hesitate: "We want to order all the pretty dishes!" Finally, we held back and chose 5 dishes + dessert, and every one had its own surprise (and small complaint)ïœ đź Beef Tartare: Creativity Shines More Than Taste We gasped the second this dish arrived! The raw beef is finely minced, served in a realistic bone-shaped container, topped with a little perilla and diced gherkins. From afar, it looks like scooped bone marrowâtoo pretty to dig into. But the taste is just "okay": the beef is fresh (no fishiness), with a hint of lemon juice for slight tartness. Unfortunately, itâs not refreshing enough and gets a bit greasy if you eat too much. Great for photos, but only 7/10 for taste. đ Crab Meat Sliders: Caramel Bread Steals the Show If the beef tartare wins for creativity, these crab sliders are "both pretty and delicious"! Three mini sliders come in a wooden "jewelry box"âopening it feels like unwrapping a gift đ! The breadâs outer layer is clearly brushed with caramel, baked golden and slightly crispy. First bite hits you with caramel sweetness, then the crab salad inside: plenty of crab meat mixed with light mayo, fresh and not greasy. The only tiny flaw: the crabâs sweetness is slightly overshadowed by the caramel bread, but itâs still delicious enough to lick your fingersâ9/10 for both looks and taste! đ Seared Scallops: Too Many Toppings Steal the Spotlight The scallops themselves are freshâseared to a slight crisp on the edges, tender and juicy with ocean sweetness. But the problem is "too many toppings": a crispy fried cake at the bottom, piled with chopped bell peppers, mango dice, walnut crumbs, and a drizzle of herb sauce. The mangoâs sweetness, walnutâs crunch, and bell pepperâs tartness mix into a confusing flavor, overshadowing the scallopsâ natural taste. I still prefer classic "scallops + simple lemon butter sauce"âonly 6/10, such a waste of good ingredients. đ„ Fried Potatoes with Fish Roe: The Sauce Is Better Than the Fries! This dish has great "ceremony": the server brings a small silver box, opens it to reveal neatly stacked thick-cut fries, topped with a heap of orange fish roe, plus a small bowl of creamy fish roe sauce. The fries are crispy outside, soft insideâdipped in the sauce, theyâre amazing! The star is the sauce: salty-savory with creamy richness, and the fish roe pops in your mouth. We even joked "we just want to eat the sauce, not the fries"ïœ Fun plating and great taste, 8.5/10! đ Grilled Pork Ribs: The Best Ribs Iâve Ever Had! If the previous dishes were "surprises," these ribs are "legendary"! They arrive still steaming, coated in amber sauce. A light tug with chopsticks, and the meat falls off the boneâno effort needed. First bite: the outer layer has a slight charred aroma, the meat is so tender it melts in your mouth but still has chew. The fat is cooked until rich but not greasy, seasoned with sweet-savory notes and a faint apple scent (turns out theyâre smoked with applewood). We even gnawed the meat off the bone crevices! No exaggerationâthese are the best grilled pork ribs Iâve ever had, 10/10, still craving them after eating! đ„ Dessert S'more: Experience Maxed Out! Whiskey Ice Cream + Warm Apple Tea, Hot & Cold Contrast This dessert is the "climax" of the mealâour mouths stayed open from start to finish! The server first brings a small grill, marshmallows, chocolate chunks, and graham crackers (classic S'more setup), then lights the alcohol burner and lets us roast the marshmallows ourselves (best when crispy outside, soft inside). Sandwich it with chocolate and crackersâfamiliar sweet goodness. We thought it was over, but then the server brings more props! #GorgeousMealsIEaten #PortlandEats #SeattleSurroundings #RestaurantsIWILLReturnTo #ThisRestaurantHasGreatVibe
