🌿 Kyoto's Hidden Gem
Kyoto is more than just the famous slope of Sannen-zaka and Ninnen-zaka. Not far from the city, Arashiyama offers not only a vintage scenic train but also Japan's premier sightseeing rafting experience, the Kōzankei River Rafting. The entire journey feels like a trip through a mystical forest realm. Mark this down for the autumn leaf season—it's even more spectacular! 🍁 🔸 Arashiyama One-Day Itinerary Kyoto Station 🚄 → JR Sagano Station → Nonomiya Shrine → Bamboo Grove Path → Tenryū-ji Temple → Ōjō-ji Temple → Ofuna Shrine → Arashiyama Scenic Train 🚂 → Kameoka Station → Kōzankei River Rafting 🚤 → Togetsukyō Bridge 🔸 Arashiyama Scenic Train Guide 🚂 Arashiyama Sagano to Kameoka 📍 The Arashiyama Scenic Train station is near Ōjō-ji Temple. 🕑 When I went, there was one train per hour, for example, at 11:30/12:30... 🎫 Tickets can be bought on-site, but during holidays, if it's full, you might have to wait an hour or more. 🔍 Visit sagano-kanko.co.jp to buy tickets in advance and switch to Chinese. 🔹 Seat recommendation: Prefer car number 5, which is panoramic and open. I only got a standing ticket, but the view from the back was still great. 🔸 Tips for No Backtracking (Reverse Route) If you don't go rafting, you can take the JR Sanin Main Line directly from Kyoto Station to Kameoka Station. 🚂 Kameoka to Arashiyama After getting off at Kameoka, it's a 10-minute walk along the railway to the station, next to a countryside path. After exploring Arashiyama, you can directly return to Kyoto. 🔸 Kōzankei River Rafting Guide From Arashiyama Sagano Station, after getting off at Kameoka Station, there's a shuttle bus to Kōzankei River Rafting. There will be signs for the ⚠️ Kōzankei River Rafting exit at the platform. 🎫 Tickets can be bought on-site, roughly 💰 around 200 RMB per person. ⛵️ Kameoka to Arashiyama Togetsukyō Bridge The route passes by attractions such as Kōzankei Bridge, Miyanoshita, Ebisuya Rock, Kagami Rock, Frog Rock, Lion's Mouth, and Kōzankei Gorge. In spring, cherry blossoms 🌸 dance along the riverbanks, in summer, there's a cool respite under the trees, in autumn, the mountains are ablaze with red leaves, and in winter, you can enjoy the distant snowscapes. It's a sight to behold all year round. 🔸 More Tips ▪️ Everyone was super happy during the rafting because I brought a portable speaker. Rafting lasts about 2 hours, and it's hard to describe the joy of watching the mountains and tree shadows on both banks, birds circling in the sky, and the occasional vintage train passing by with surround sound music! It's like a live concert in the forest! 😁 ▪️ I brought the Sony SRS-XB100, which weighs only 274g and feels like nothing in your hand. It can fit in any bag that's not too small. With a super long battery life of 16 hours, there's no need to worry about the power running out, and it's IP67 dust and water-resistant, so I wasn't worried about it getting wet during rafting. Many fellow rafters asked me about the model when we got off the boat.
