LA|A Design Treasure Trove Where Beauty Meets Presence 🏛️✨
Following up on BDDW, here’s another iconic LA destination: JF Chen. Housed in a converted 1950s concrete bank, the 30,000 sq ft space features a spiral staircase, skylights, and massive metal-framed windows—a breathtaking mix of industrial architecture and curated artistry. Founded over 40 years ago by Shanghai-born collector Joel Chen (whom I met in person—he speaks great Mandarin!), the gallery is more than a furniture store—it’s an inspirational stage for design, history, and avant-garde aesthetics. What you’ll find: 🪑 18th-century Italian antiques to mid-century modernist icons by Eames, Hans Wegner, Jean Prouvé, Ettore Sottsass, and more. 🎨 Hand-carved decorative arts, lighting, sculpture, and museum-level pieces. 🎭 Rotating exhibitions like “Armor Amor,” blending Japanese samurai armor with contemporary design. Clients include Tom Ford, The Row, LACMA, and major film, magazine, and exhibition stylists. They even have a new parking-lot-turned-plant-exhibition space out back! And according to Joel, what’s on view is just a fraction—he has warehouses full of treasures. A true pilgrimage for designers, collectors, and anyone who appreciates timeless beauty. 🌿 JF Chen 931 Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038 #LADesign #JFChen #FurnitureGallery #MidCentury #ArtCollection #LAArchitecture #InteriorDesign #DesignInspo #HiddenGemLA
