LA|Simple & Honest Food Diary 🍚

A week of eating in Los Angeles! 1. Hangari Comforting, homestyle chicken noodle soup—perfect for a cool evening. The broth is rich and thick, maybe from a bit of starch or simmered pumpkin/potato. So flavorful and satisfying. The boiled pork platter was also fantastic—fatty but not greasy, impossible to eat just one piece. 2–5. Random Yakitori in Little Tokyo Found this spot when super hungry one night. Limited menu, but the Japanese karaage was juicy and delicious, and the oyakodon (chicken & egg rice bowl) hit the spot with sweet teriyaki sauce and a runny egg over rice. Yakitori was tender but got repetitive flavor-wise. Matcha beer was nice, but the chicken soup was disappointing. Better for dates or chats than serious eating. 6. In-N-Out 🍔 A California must! Got the burger protein style (lettuce wrap)—crisp and refreshing. Animal-style fries are always a guilty pleasure. And OMG—if you haven’t tried the vanilla strawberry shake, you’re missing out!!!!! So good 😭 As a Chengdu native, I’d give it a solid 70/100. The pea noodle bowl and beef noodles were tasty, and I liked the spicy wontons too. Cold appetizers are cheap and generous—good for a quick, casual meal. 8. Egg Tuck Randomly found this Korean-style sandwich spot for lunch—surprisingly good! The avocado scrambled egg was soft and fluffy, and the brioche bread had a subtle, sweet pumpkin-like aroma. Also tried the spicy beef patty with egg—like a sandwich version of a burger, also delicious. INSANELY good grilled fish—this dish woke up my taste buds during jet lag 😭 So flavorful and perfect with rice, even the veggies soaked up all the seasoning. The popular numbing beef tongue was just okay for me, but my partner liked it. #LAEats #LADiary #ComfortFood #LosAngeles#KoreanFood #Yakitori #InNOut #SichuanCuisine
