LA | Cerritos / Chubby Cattle Wagyu BBQ 🥩
After last weekend’s disappointing cheat meal, I decided to play it safe this time. (The Shanghainese place recommended in the comments will have to wait until next week.) My friend had been talking about Chubby Cattle for weeks. I’d been to the Rowland Heights location before and tried the Diamond tier — honestly, I didn’t remember much except that the wagyu got rich too quickly, but their limited-time sushi and sashimi were pretty good, especially the sweet shrimp, which was fresh and sweet. This time, we went to the new Cerritos location — closer to home and less of a wait than Rowland Heights. Learning from last time, we chose the Silver tier. 👍 Pros: The boba milk tea at the drink station was actually tasty and not too sweet. The seaweed salad and okra salad were nice palate openers. The egg tarts at the dessert station were a pleasant surprise — well-made and not soggy! 👎 Cons: The fruit station looked fancy with mist swirling around, but none of the fruit was sweet. The unlimited sashimi and sushi weren’t good — couldn’t really taste the fish. The Argentinian red shrimp was a major letdown — mushy texture and slightly fishy. I took one bite and didn’t dare eat more. The steamed egg was way too salty — had to pour off the sauce before eating it (tasted good after that, though).❤️😍 💬 Honest take: As a BBQ AYCE spot, the meat quality here is decent for the price — nothing special, but meets expectations. But the shrimp was seriously disappointing — probably the worst I’ve had at any AYCE. As a shrimp lover, I was pretty upset 😤. 🤔 Final thoughts: The idea of wagyu AYCE is a bit contradictory — you want to eat a lot, but wagyu is too rich to enjoy in large quantities. Plus, the good sushi/sashimi items are limited, while the unlimited ones aren’t great… kind of awkward. If you really want to try it, I’d recommend the Rowland Heights location — their Diamond tier has the most limited-item variety. The Cerritos branch only offers two. #ChubbyCattle #ChubbyCattleBBQ #WagyuAYCE #LAfood #CerritosEats 🥢🔥
