LA | Kinkan – Japanese-Thai Fusion Omakase (Fall Menu)
Went for a little anniversary and chose this spot blindly — turned out amazing! The chef was so lovely — great conversation, great food, perfect bar experience. If you go, sit at the bar to chat, drink, and hear the chef’s stories. The menu focuses on Thai ingredients prepared in Japanese style — fresh and creative. Plating and presentation are thoughtful. Highlights: 🍳 Steamed Dish – Chawanmushi-style steamed egg with scallops, rich coconut curry base, topped with spicy red curry fish liver — balanced and not too heavy. 🐟 Sashimi – Sanma (Pacific saury) sashimi with bouncy sea grapes, dressed with a special Thai herb sauce — usually not a sanma fan, but this was super refreshing. 🦀 Snow Crab – Hokkaido snow crab croquette! Packed with crab and a little potato, fried to perfection. Paired with a perfectly spicy sauce. The chef loves crab — they have a monthly Crab Night on Sundays (menu looks amazing — definitely going next time!). 🍔 "Hamburger" – Tuna-based patty served with shredded daikon and crispy potatoes — delicious. 🍚 Rice Porridge – Butterfly pea flower congee with small sides — comforting, traditional breakfast vibes, warm and soothing as the final savory course. Overall: Exceeded expectations! The chef’s friendly vibe made the night fun and relaxed. Only note: it’s a long meal — we started at 7:30 PM and finished past 11 PM… went home happily tipsy 😊. #Omakase #IzakayaFood #JapaneseCuisine #FineDining #ThaiFood #Sashimi #LAEats #LAFood
