LA | Maison Kanatha | Eating Beautiful Food Right at the Counter
A $220 set with so many courses I had to be rolled out the door 🥲 Worth trying — especially before they raise prices! A fusion of Japanese, French, and Thai — you can taste each influence, dish by dish. Everything was delicious individually, though not super connected. Definitely “pretty food” 🦐 First course: Fried shrimp cake — juicy, well-seasoned, peppery and spicy. The plum sauce underneath cut the richness perfectly. 🥚 Second: Signature dish? Great texture, but the white sesame mousse totally overpowered the ankimo and caviar. Pretty but not what I expected. 🐟 Grilled fish — tasted like stinky tofu? Tender, but not my favorite flavor profile. 🍅 Tomato with cheese — so refreshing! Light creaminess, sweet crispy topping — loved it. 🌯 Spring roll with fish — light, fresh, no fishiness. 🦐 Thai-style raw shrimp — tender, sauce had that ceviche-like tang, but a weird bitter note lingered even after a sip of wine. 🍔 “Burger” — so good! Tuna was rich but not oily, paired with apple slices that balanced everything beautifully. This place really nails balance. 🦀 Masala crab — Indian flavors entered the chat! Stuffed with crab meat, rice, and sauce — all three of us took a bite and gasped… so delicious and surprising! 🍤 Tempura grilled fish — amazing flavor. The fried coating had seaweed in it, adding so much umami. 🍲 Chawanmushi with spinach chicken + French onion soup fusion — worked better than expected! By this point I was beyond full… then came three thick slices of Wagyu steak — at that stage, I couldn’t even judge it properly 😂 🍜 Finally, a noodle course — asked for less noodles. The broth was delicate, the fish tender and fragrant — best fish dish of the night! #LifeAbroad #MyFoodTreasures #Foodie #JapaneseFrenchFusion #CreativeCuisine #LAFoodGuide
