LA | Orsa & Winston: A Restaurant Named After Dogs! đŸ
Advertised as a 5-course menu, but they actually served us 9 generous dishes. For the price, especially in Los Angeles, this felt like genuinely great value. As we were leaving, I noticed a photo of two dogs on the wall and worked up the courage to askâturns out the restaurant is indeed named after the ownerâs two adorable pups. How cute is that? đ„°đ¶ The steamed egg was served warm, not hot, but had a uniquely delicate flavor, topped with something crispy that resembled caviar (I later learned at Udatsu it was filled caviar). The kanpachi course came with a sweet, crisp fruit on topâwhich I found out was pink blueberryâalong with a sprinkle of black sesame that added fragrance without the heaviness of sesame oil. đâš The herb clam soup with Japanese squid was intriguingâthe squid was fried before being placed in the brothâbut unfortunately, it was overly salty. The fried fish salad introduced greens Iâd never tried before, dressed in yuzu juice, though the cheese somewhat overpowered the delicate flavors. đ„đ§ The lobster dumpling was a standoutâslightly sweet but not cloying, with a perfectly tender wrapper. Next came a cured fish that instantly reminded me of my momâs homemade mackerelâproof, once again, of the subtle harmony between French and Cantonese cuisines. Served with greens, it was flavorful but not overly salty. đ„đż The seafood risotto (or "porridge") is a must-add! Itâs an luxurious assault of uni, lobster, scallop, abalone, red prawn, and caviarâsheer indulgence. The olive fish was also delightful, with a lovely texture, but the real star was the grilled figâunexpectedly divine, even better than the fish itself! đđ· All in all, a truly delightful Friday eveningâthoughtful, whimsical, and satisfying. #LifeAbroad #LAEats #HiddenGems #StudentEats #FrancoJapanese #Food #LADiningGuide #DateNight #MichelinStar #RestaurantShare
