š LA | Shoya ā A Cozy, Family-Run Gem Near Torrance š®
This is a warm, intimate spot run by a coupleāsuper cozy and welcoming! But because itās a small family operation, the service can be pretty slow. ā³ So if youāre in a hurry, this might not be the best choice! We tried a variety of dishes: š¢ Oden (Japanese Hot Pot) ⢠Bamboo Shoot: Delicious! Kept its natural flavor and texture. ⢠Kombu Knot: Standard, but essential for oden. ⢠Beef Suji (Tendon): Very tender, but a bit too rich for my taste. ⢠Daikon: Super flavorfulāa must-order for oden lovers. ⢠Kinchaku (Tofu Pouch): Filled with yam pasteāslightly grainy texture. (I ordered the special one, but it seemed pretty standard.) ⢠Hanpen (Fish Cake): Soft, melt-in-your-mouth goodnessāanother oden essential. ⢠Chikuwa (Fish Cake Roll): Great texture and very tasty! š Grilled Saba (Mackerel): A standout! Crispy on the outside, tender inside. A squeeze of lemon kept it light and fresh. š š² Beef Sukiyaki: Just okayāthe beef was a bit overcooked, but the tofu was flavorful. Not as amazing as the hype. š³ Dashimaki (Rolled Omelette): Highly recommend! Sweet, fluffy, and topped with green onions and radishāunique and delicious! š š Salmon Chazuke (Salmon Tea Rice): Pretty ordinaryāthe salmon was on the salty side. Final thoughts: A great little spot for slow meals and long chats with friends! This was my second time hereāI really enjoy the relaxed vibe. Heads up: A 5% service charge is automatically included, so keep that in mind when tipping! š” Shoya š 1920 Pacific Coast Hwy, Lomita, CA 90717 š¬ Whatās your favorite cozy, family-run restaurant in LA?
