LA | Taokay — A Taste of Chaoshan, Feels Like Home 🏡

Honestly, I was a bit biased at first — because I love Toujia in Guangzhou so much. Not sure about the origin of the name “Toujia,” but to me, the Guangzhou one is the gold standard.👍😘 But since this is also Chaoshan cuisine, I thought I’d give it a try — and surprisingly, it’s pretty good! Their wet-fried beef hor fun — for LA, this is satisfying. Would be even better if the satay sauce were a bit lighter, but I know Chaoshan flavors vary by region. Wonder where the owner’s from? That day, we were told they had raw marinated shrimp… but then the kitchen said it was sold out 😭 So close! 🥢 Braised platter — flavors were on point, fatty intestine was rich but not greasy. They also allow BYO seafood for a cooking fee ($20–30) — imagine bringing a king crab… talk about a steal (just daydreaming here 😂). I’ll be back next time I crave this taste — hoping for even better next time! #LifeAbroad #LAEats #ChaoshanCuisine #CantoneseFood #Foodie #MyFoodTreasures #SoCalLife
