LA 🌴 | Shoya – A Tiny No-Tip Japanese Spot with Small Portions
A heads-up: when we got the handwritten bill, the total didn’t match the sum of items. When we asked, the owner explained it already included a 5% service fee, so no additional tip needed. (It felt a bit sneaky—if we hadn’t checked, we might have tipped on top!) 📍 Shoya 1920 Pacific Coast Hwy, Lomita, CA 90717 📞 Reservations strongly recommended—only 9 seats! 🅿️ Free parking in the plaza (plenty of spots on a Friday night). 💰 ~$50 per person (portions are notably small). 🍢 Oden – Authentic and comforting, with a nice variety of ingredients. 🥘 Sukiyaki – Flavorful and heartwarming, but only about 5 slices of meat for around $17–20. 🍅 Tomato Stewed Chicken – Delicious and tender in a rich tomato sauce, but served in a rice-bowl-sized portion. 🍮 Dessert – We tried the coffee jelly and would not recommend—skip it. Overall, Shoya offers genuine Japanese flavors in an intimate setting, but the small portions and slightly opaque pricing might not justify a long drive. If you’re nearby and craving simple, home-style Japanese food, it’s worth a try—just double-check the bill! 🧾👀 #LAEats #JapaneseFood #ShoyaLomita #SmallPortions #NoTipNeeded #HiddenSpot #AuthenticJapanese #FoodReview #EatLocal #TorranceArea
