LA Art Exhibition: Midnight California Dream 🌙🎨

The Luis De Jesus Gallery in the Los Angeles Art District is currently hosting two new exhibitions! ✨ Frank Romero - California Dreaming • A major solo exhibition by Chicano art pioneer Frank Romero, looking back on his six-decade creative career (including sculptures, neon works, paintings, and more). • The entire show feels like a California dream, weaving between reality and imagination—featuring LA freeways, UFOs, Hollywood, lowriders, old cinemas, historic buildings, starry skies, city nights, palm trees, the Southwest desert, and neon lights. • Chicano refers to an art movement from the 1960s–70s (feel free to look it up if you're interested!); it’s closely tied to cultural identity and often uses murals, installations, and performances to bring art back to the streets and communities. • Frank Romero’s works are included in major institutions like MoMA, LACMA, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. ✨ Karla Diaz — Mal de Ojo • A new solo exhibition by LA artist Karla Diaz. The title Mal de Ojo comes from the folk belief in the “evil eye” in Spanish-speaking cultures. • The evil eye belief: It’s said that certain envious, jealous, or malicious gazes can bring harm to those looked upon (especially infants or children). People often wear protective charms or use traditional prayers to guard against it. • The exhibition includes numerous portraits on paper, depicting everyday people from the community, friends, immigrant groups, as well as figures with a dreamlike quality. • Each portrait acts like a “blessing” for overlooked individuals, making them visible through art. 🏛 Gallery Introduction • Luis De Jesus Los Angeles was founded in 2007 (starting in San Diego before moving to LA in 2010). • It focuses on contemporary art, emphasizing diverse identities, social issues, and cross-media practices (painting, sculpture, video, installation). • A member of ADAA and NADA, it’s one of LA’s most representative cutting-edge galleries. 📍 1110 Mateo St, Los Angeles (Luis De Jesus Los Angeles) 🕰️ September 13 – October 25, 2025 Have you visited any inspiring art exhibitions recently?
