LA Art Show | Dual Exhibitions in Glassell Park šØ
Whenever I visit galleries, the first thing I notice is always the lighting. These two galleries in Glassell Park are classic LA gemsāboth have incredible natural light and are just a 5-minute walk apart. Stepping inside, you immediately feel a bright, uplifting energy that lifts your moodļ½āØ āØ Timeās Arrow š” ⢠A group exhibition featuring 6 artists from diverse backgrounds and generations. Like six markers on an arrow of time, the show explores how abstract art responds to the world through color, texture, and a sense of temporality across different eras and contexts. ⢠Fun fact: The exhibition title is inspired by Martin Amisā novel Timeās Arrow, which uses reverse chronology to tell a life story from death to birth. While viewing, consider how the artworks carry time, memory, and experience. For example, in Rema Ghuloumās pieces, layered pigments form natural ābanksā of texture along the canvas edges. ⢠Personally loved works by Pamela Jorden, Christy Matso, and Rema Ghuloumāespecially Pamela Jordenās pieces (P2-3), which are incredibly elegant. ⢠This gallery is one of my personal favorites in LA. They consistently showcase strong shows (with great support for local artists!) and even have a YouTube channel featuring in-depth artist interviewsāso thoughtful!! š Philip Martin Gallery ⨠Everyday Breath š” ⢠Also a group show, this exhibition uses diverse media like painting, fiber art, ceramics, and collage to explore tension between compulsion, repetition, and transcendence in daily life. ⢠My favorites were works by Kristen Morgin, Hubert Schmalix, and Mansur Nurallah. ⢠Lately, Iāve been noticing āAfrican-American quilt-makingā inspired art in various shows and stores š§µ. Since slavery, Black communities have used quilting to repurpose fabric scraps from old clothes and sacks into beautiful, meaningful blankets. I love how these works stitch together memory and time. š GGLA #ArtShines #ContemporaryArt #BoundlessArt #LookUpAtArt #ExhibitionVibes #LosAngeles #LAArtScene
