LA Hidden Gem Museum ❕ Bet None of Your Friends Have Been Here!

This weekend, I visited the International Printing Museum, and I was completely blown away! 😍 Who knew LA had such a treasure trove full of historical printing presses and movable type? It’s literally a paradise for anyone interested in design, printmaking, or typography. I was lucky enough to catch their annual Wayzgoose Festival & Surplus Sale 🎉 (August 16, 2025). Not only could you see tons of antique printing machines up close, but you could also hunt for typefaces, woodblocks, metal plates, and even join hands-on workshops! ✨ Museum Highlights: • Letterpress printing presses from different eras: From old platen presses to 20th-century Heidelberg windmills—all available to see up close, some even still operational! • Tables filled with old copper zinc plates, woodcuts, and type cases—it felt like stepping into a printing-themed flea market. • Super retro vibe with vintage posters, wartime propaganda art, and typography prints covering the walls. Every corner is Instagram-worthy 📸. 🛠 Festival Experience: • Surplus Sale: You could buy wood type, metal fonts, printing plates—it was like treasure hunting! Every piece carried a sense of history. • Workshops: They offered gold stamping, typesetting, and intaglio printing sessions. After signing up, you got to operate the machines yourself and feel the magic of ink on paper ✨. • There were also T-shirt screen printing and paper marbling activities—perfect for craft lovers! 💡 Tips: • The museum is open regularly, but the festival day is extra lively (and crowded!). • Highly recommended for font lovers, graphic designers, and print enthusiasts! Great for both inspiration and photo ops. • Located in Carson, south of LA—easier to drive. Parking is available right outside. 📷 Here are some snapshots I took: antique presses, tables full of type, and gorgeous typography posters—so satisfying to look at! 👀 If you’re into vintage machines, typography, or letterpress, you HAVE to visit this place at least once!
