🌟 LA Kaiseki Michelin One-Star Uka — How Did This Get a Star?
On a whim, I booked Uka, a highly-rated kaiseki spot in LA. The only slot left was 8:30 PM — and upon arrival, we were given the “after 8:30 PM menu” + à la carte options. The restaurant was empty except for us — atmosphere was okay. The first two appetizers were decent — normal performance. Then from the sashimi course… things went sideways 😵💫. The sashimi had a certain “H Mart aesthetic” to it 🐟🛒. The à la carte Wagyu with ponzu sauce was so greasy I almost felt sick. And the final steak course… honestly tasted like Texas Roadhouse level 😵💫. The server seemed in a bad mood too — stone-faced the whole time. We mentioned gluten-free… and then got served a plate of tempura (???).
