LA Michelin One-Star Shunji (Part 1) ✨
Recently obsessed with sushi — and Shunji has two rooms: the Chef Shunji Room and the Chef Miki Room. Of course, I had to try the Chef Shunji Room first! The chef was in great spirits all evening, chatting with us every now and then — made the experience really enjoyable. 😊 Following the course order, the appetizers started light: 🥗 A seasonal vegetable salad, fresh and crisp. 🐟 Sashimi with a delicate broth jelly — absolutely delicious! The toasted sesame seeds added such a lovely fragrance. Next came marinated Atlantic bonito, paired with something like garlic scapes (very seasonal, I was told), with fried roots. 🌱 Not my favorite since I’m not a fan of anything garlicky, but interesting nonetheless. Then — the manju! 🤤 So good — tasted like taro and radish paste, soft and sticky yet refreshingly light. And then… the sushi began! 🍣 They use red vinegar rice here. The fish lineup (from what I remember): 1️⃣ Sea bass 2️⃣ Kinmedai (golden eye snapper) 3️⃣ Isaki (chicken grunt) 4️⃣ & 5️⃣ … honestly forgot the last two 😅 This was Part 1 — all lighter, clean-tasting fish. Can’t wait to share the rest! 🎌 #MichelinRecommendation #Michelin #MichelinRestaurant #LosAngeles
