๐ LA Uka๏ฝNewly Awarded Michelin One-Star โจ Hidden Gem Kaiseki
So good โ we were stuffed but still powered through every course. Go try UKA before it gets impossible to book! We chose a window table โ super comfy couch with a view of the Hollywood nightscape ๐. ๐ Now onto the food: ๐ Drinks: Yuzu Sparkling Juice and Muryozan Sake โ both incredibly refreshing. ๐ฒ Course 1: Dashi for the Five Senses Clear, delicate kombu + bonito broth. ๐ฅ Course 2: Playful appetizers Included a devil-head-shaped carrot ๐ฅ๐ with a brown sugar cookie stick โ meant for โexorcismโ ๐. Carrot served in a daikon box. Braised tuna was also delicious. ๐ Course 3: Dashi returns With cooked tai (sea bream), bamboo shoot, and veggies. The bamboo shoot was tender and sweet โ tasted like corn! Broth was beautifully layered. ๐ฃ Courses 4โ5: Sashimi One aged seafood, one classic sashimi. Bafun uni was creamy and amazing โ portion was generous. ๐ Course 6: Simmered Salmon with Egg Wrap My favorite dish! Salmon rich and tender, wrapped in egg โ paired with dashi = pure happiness. ๐ Course 7: Teriyaki Yellowtail with Turnip Liked the turnip more than the fish โ with green sauce, it was incredible. ๐ง Course 8: Surprise off-menu dish Oyster + cheese served in a lemon ๐ โ lemon scent was a nice touch. This is where we started feeling seriously fullโฆ ๐ฅฉ Course 9: Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Shabu-Shabu ๐ฃ Course 10: Chirashi Sushi with Egg Crepe The one that didnโt wow me โ rice wasnโt great, but the hojicha served with it was excellent. ๐ง Dessert: Red bean jelly + matcha ice cream + fried mochi chips + strawberry ๐ Finally had sweet, flavorful strawberries in the US โ so satisfying! ๐ UKA ๐ฐ ~$350 per person #Omakase #HiddenGemEats #LAFood #LosAngeles #LAFoodie #LADateSpot #Michelin
