Le Canard Enchaine – French Cuisine in Kingston

We stopped by Kingston on our way to Kaaterskill Falls and decided to try this French restaurant. No reservation needed, and there was no wait—turns out the place is huge! It was filled with elderly folks and family gatherings, and the servers were all older too, which gave it a unique, charming vibe. 1️⃣ Foie Gras Terrine – $14 It was on the seasonal menu, and since foie gras isn’t something I get to eat often, I had to order it. Honestly, though, I was a bit disappointed. It was smothered in a rich blueberry jam-like sauce, making the whole dish taste quite sweet. Personally, I think foie gras is best when pan-seared with simple seasoning. It was so rich that I ended up ordering an extra baguette to cut through the heaviness 😅. There weren’t many foie gras slices either—most of the dish, which looked generous, was actually fruit slices at the bottom (I’m guessing pears). 2️⃣ Napoleon of Vegetable – $16 Not as good as I hoped. First, the portion was tiny—80% of it was eggplant, with one slice of bell pepper and a thin layer of zucchini. Definitely not worth the price. The flavor was just okay, but my partner and I were shocked by how cold it was. We knew it was a salad, but it looked like it might at least be warm… 🥶 3️⃣ Confit Duck with Warm Potato Salad – $38 The two main courses were surprisingly delicious, but we waited so long for them—at least an hour. By then, neither of us was hungry anymore. But the duck leg was incredibly tender—the meat fell off the bone with a light nudge. It was rich and juicy, so satisfying to eat! Oh, and there was a big strawberry on top… which was a bit confusing, I have to say 😂. 4️⃣ Seabass – $39 I forgot the exact name, but it was also on the seasonal menu. The fish was cooked perfectly! It was topped with pomegranate seeds and crispy fried onions, which I loved. It had a creamy, milky flavor without being too heavy—so tasty 😋. I also loved their baguette—they brought out two rounds, both warm, and it tasted even better with butter 🥖. The service was good, but the food took way too long to come out. The quality was high overall, though I’m not used to all the fruit pairings. Other than that, it was a nice experience! #FrenchCuisine #FrenchRestaurant #KingstonFood #Kingston #WhatToEatInKingston
