Little Sister in DTLA, Los Angeles
Before coming to eat here, I heard friends complain that the Pho wasn’t worth it, but since it had been on my wishlist for so long, I decided to check it out anyway. To my surprise, I quite liked it. I immediately recommended it to a friend I’m having dinner with on Friday, and they also found it to their taste after eating. It just goes to show that taste is very subjective. 🥣 Firstly, the shrimp was a highlight for me in terms of ingredients – fresh, crispy, and bouncy, with each piece super large. I really want to know where I can buy such shrimp regularly. However, I have mixed opinions on the three dishes made with shrimp. 🌟🌟🌟 Crispy Prawns - The most popular small appetizer, with a light and crispy batter that doesn’t mask the taste and texture of the shrimp. Absolute thumbs up! 🌟🌟🌟 Goi Cuon Pork and Shrimp Rice Paper Spring Rolls - What a substantial spring roll! The lemongrass aroma is like a catalyst that brings out the flavors of the seafood, meat, and vegetables in the roll, paired with peanut sauce, it’s just fantastic. 🌟 Goi Du Du Shrimp and Papaya Salad - Limited by my own taste, I’m not a big fan. The use of shrimp paste is a bit overpowering in this dish and somewhat throat-tickling. The green papaya feels dry and lacks moisture, completely devoid of fruitiness, but the grilled shrimp is pretty good. 🌟🌟🌟 Saigon Lemongrass Beef Pho - Although I was discouraged, a friend really wanted Pho, so we ordered it.We did 😭 It might be a bit light on flavor for some, but the broth is very fresh and doesn’t have that overly sweet taste that comes from added sugar. We managed to eat two bowls even after ordering so many dishes. The only downside might be that the noodles can get a bit soft if left to soak too long, and it’s not the best value for money. 🌟🌟 Bo Kho Vietnamese Braised Beef with Tomato - Served with a Vietnamese sandwich, the highlight is the marrow bone, but its role in the dish isn’t very distinct; it might just be there to boost the dish’s status. Overall, the flavor is still very good, but I’m not sure how it pairs with the sandwich, as the sauce seems more like a broth than a condiment. I took it home to cook noodles, and it was incredibly flavorful. ✨ Overall, I think it’s definitely worth a try if you’re having dinner in the area! Besides the DTLA location, there are three other chains in Irvine, Redondo Point, and El Segundo. #DigitalFoodieMeetsReality #LosAngeles #LosAngelesFood #LosAngelesRestaurants #LA #DTLA #LosAngelesEats
