London | Finally Found Delicious Unadon (Eel Rice) Here

I was wandering around Camden and stumbled upon this Japanese restaurant by chance. I’d been craving unadon (eel rice) like crazy lately, so I popped in to try it—and it did not disappoint! Even the sushi was a nice surprise, way better than I expected. 🍱 Sushi Rolls: Camden Roll & Volcano Roll Let’s start with the star of the sushi section: the Camden Roll—highly recommended! It’s topped with seared scallop pieces drizzled with mayonnaise, hitting that perfect sweet-savory note. Inside the roll, there’s crisp asparagus, which adds a lovely crunch to contrast with the tender, bouncy scallop. Each bite balances textures beautifully: the snap of asparagus, the softness of the scallop, and the slight creaminess of the mayo. But the best part? Plump, glistening salmon roe scattered on top—every tiny pearl bursts in your mouth, releasing a briny, fresh flavor. The outer layer of the sushi roll is coated in tempura flakes, adding a golden, crispy crunch, plus a layer of creamy cheese that makes each bite taste rich and subtly sweet (like a “milky-sweet” treat). It’s indulgent but not heavy—definitely one of the best sushi rolls I’ve had in Camden! The Volcano Roll is solid too, but the Camden Roll stole the show for me—it’s unique to the spot and totally worth ordering. 🍣 Sashimi Take (Assorted Sashimi Plate) For £21, this sashimi plate is such a steal! It comes with three types of fresh raw fish: thick-cut salmon, tender tuna, and a handful of sweet shrimp (amaebi). The slices are generously thick—so thick that you’ll need to chew 7 or 8 times to savor all the flavor ! You can immediately taste how fresh the fish is: the salmon melts on your tongue, with a buttery richness; the tuna is firm but not chewy, with a clean, mild flavor; and the sweet shrimp are plump, juicy, and have that delicate sweetness that amaebi is known for. I hadn’t had sashimi in ages, so that first bite was pure joy—smooth, fresh, and totally satisfying. For the portion and quality, £21 is unbeatable in central London. 🐟 Unadon (Eel Rice Bowl) This unadon was exactly what I’d been craving—and it delivered! The bowl is huge, packed with fluffy Japanese rice topped with a whole piece of grilled eel. The eel itself is cooked perfectly: the outer skin has a slight crispness, while the flesh inside is incredibly tender and juicy (no dry, tough bits here!). The rice is fully infused with the eel’s signature sauce—rich, savory, and with a hint of sweetness that makes it super moreish. Every spoonful of rice + eel is coated in that glossy sauce, so you never get a “bland bite.” To make it even better, they add two extra pieces of grilled eel on the side—more eel, more joy 😋! It’s hearty enough to be a full meal on its own, and I left with a happy, full stomach. 🍻 Yakimono (Grilled Dishes) We ordered two grilled items: squid and shrimp—and the grilled squid is a must-try! The squid is cooked to perfection: soft but still chewy (not rubbery at all), with a fresh, sweet seafood flavor that shines through. It’s tossed in a thick, savory teriyaki sauce—sweet, salty, and slightly sticky—that clings to every piece of squid. The combination of the squid’s natural sweetness and the teriyaki sauce is addictive; I kept reaching for more even after I was full. The grilled shrimp is good too—juicy and well-seasoned—but the squid was the standout. If you love grilled seafood, don’t skip it! 📍 Location & Practical Info - Name: Sushi Salsa - Address: 3A, Camden Wharf, Jamestown Rd, London NW1 7HW (right in the heart of Camden, easy to find after exploring Camden Market!) - Average Cost: £30-40 per person. It’s not cheap, but it’s far from overpriced—especially for the portion sizes and quality (you’ll leave completely full). - Bonus Tip: They offer a sushi buffet every Friday to Sunday, and the price is really reasonable! If you’re a big sushi fan, it’s a great way to try a wide variety of dishes without breaking the bank. #Unadon #BeautifulMealsILoved #LondonUnadon #LondonJapaneseFood #LondonSushi #LondonFood #CamdenFood #UKJapaneseFood
