London Exhibition Recommendation - Van Gogh Poets & Lovers 🎨🖼️

In February 1888, the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) moved to the south of France to live and work. Over the next two years, he produced an extraordinary and creative series of works in Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, transforming the people and places he encountered in his life. Parks, landscapes, and natural nooks became highly expressive ideal spaces, filled with literature and poetry. 🌿📚 Similarly, Van Gogh chose figures from his new environment to create symbolic portraits, such as ‘The Poet’ or ‘The Lover’. The meticulous planning behind Van Gogh’s artistic creation extended to grouping or serial works, considering how to exhibit these pieces in his home in Arles and in Paris. By collecting these paintings (many of which are among his most famous and beloved) and showcasing them alongside his carefully crafted works on paper, a less well-known Van Gogh emerges: a figure of clear intention, contemplation, and ambitious wisdom. 🧠✨ This is the first large-scale exhibition of Van Gogh in the National Gallery’s history and a highlight of the museum’s celebration of its 200th anniversary. It also marks the 100th anniversary of the museum’s acquisition of ‘Sunflowers’ and ‘Van Gogh’s Chair’ for its collection. #LondonExhibitionRecommendations #VanGogh #LondonVanGoghExhibition #NationalGalleryVanGogh #LondonWeekend #ArtExhibition #LondonArtGuide #LondonExhibitions
